la nouvelle vague :: posterized

My lovely little posters! I put this series together as part of my final for a course on New Wave Cinema.

I only covered a handful of the films from the curriculum, but the movies/directors represented are:

- Band of Outsiders :: Jean-Luc Godard

- Aguirre: the Wrath of God :: Werner Herzog

- Ali: Fear Eats the Soul :: Rainer Werner Fassbinder

and

- Tokyo Drifter :: Seijun Suzuki

I printed them a set @ 18 x 24, but my professor purchased them from me after the critique. I’ll print more on demand; color printing is just tooooo expensive to do more than one or two at a time.

Tomorrow: An update to the interactive page, and Tales of Horror Regarding Finals Week.

Until then,

Rose, out.

An Arbitrary Animal Alphabet

I’ve been absent for about a month, thanks to a lovely little thing called “Finals at Carnegie Mellon.”

I will regale you with tales of horror, wonder, and microcontrollers, but for now, here’s the alphabet book I put together for November’s Book Arts show.

There’s a few spelling errors here and there, but the war wounds from finals week are still too fresh… I’ll fix ‘em later. For now, here’s An Arbitrary Animal Alphabet, warts and all.

guess what I’ve been working on….!

That’s right boys and girls. I’m in a student run gallery show this coming weekend; hold on to your hats.

I think I’m kind of woefully behind in actually participating in a Frame show, but my work never really fits into what other kiddies are doing.

However, this show is put together by the lovely Emily Durbin, myself, and my friends, so you know it’s going to be off the hook.

And by that, I mean we’re bringing hot drinks and couches into the gallery and letting you read our books for three nights. Hell to the yes, it’ll be low key and beautiful.
I was originally shooting for four new works in the show, but then reality smacked me in the face and reminded me that I am a full time student with a job. So…. I’ll be exhibiting But I Love You (sometimes) - I’m binding the original pages, no less! so fancy. - and a new work co-written with fellow student (and possibly the only Art-Frat-Bro in existence), Asa Foster, The Absurdist’s Animal Alphabet.

Which I am still working on shhhhh don’t tell oh god.
Right now I’m inking a bunch of revolutionary raptors and watching Practical Magic (I love that movie way more than I should. don’t judge).

In other news pertinent to an art blog

- things are a little tidier now. Like it?

- I’ve been making a lot of work this semester, but it’s all flash and max.msp.jitter and processing and I need to sit down and embed everything one day but today is not that day. Long story short: the interactive page will get a little less pathetic soon, I promise.

Gotta get back to my raptors;

Rose, out.

what a weekend!

I am exhausted and rushing to do all the homework that was put on the back burner this weekend, but exhibiting at PIX was so worth it. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and bought my book! If you’re visiting for the first time after stopping by my table, welcome! I know it’s not much, but please poke around and see if there’s anything you like.

My first experience selling my work was a largely positive one; I sold a little over half the stock I brought with me, and have largely broken even in terms of cost. It was great meeting and talking to everyone! Hopefully I’ll have more with me the next time I have a table somewhere, instead of a million copies of one book, but this was a good learning experience. It’s really interesting to see what sells and what doesn’t, and what will bring people over to look around and what will not.

I even started a new comic while I was sitting behind the table! I’m already 5 pages in. No color this time; Printing was far too expensive, I don’t think I’ll be doing another color book for awhile; I think just (minimal) color covers from here on out.

I must get back to my homework; it was impossible to study at PIX, and I’ve got so much to do!
Art update later in the week.
For now,

but i love you (sometimes)

For whatever reason I never finished posting this, so here it is in it’s entirety; I put most of it together last year during 24 hour comic day, but there have been various edits and touch-ups along the way.

I’m printing a set of about 30 of these to sell at PIX this weekend - I have a table with two friends, and I’ll be there all day Saturday. If you go, come say hello! And maybe pick up a comic; they’ll be cheaaaaaaaap!
